Practice Makes Perfect!

If you're planning a big night out or have a special occasion to attend, practise your style beforehand to make sure you know exactly what you want to achieve and how. You can also experiment with different styles to see which suits your overall look. Bad hair days will be a think of the past.

Hair that holds All night long

For party hair that last all night long always blow dry your hair until it is completely dry before styling. Hair which is slightly damp will soon flop and loose volume. To add extra volume which will stay put, gently backcomb the roots, tip head upside down and mist with hairspray - this will help lock in the volume and ensure that your style doesn't go limp during the evening. Finish with a final mist of light hairspray to keep the style secure for the night.

Fringes

Fringes are a great way to update your look in an instant without chopping off any length. They can look great swept to the side or as a heavy blunt fringe. Choose the one which sits best with your face shape. To avoid fringes looking lacklustre use a dry shampoo like Phil Smith Be Gorgeous Dry Clean Shampoo in between washes. You could also try a clip in fringe which are a great way to try the look without the long term commitment.

Super shiny hair

Most of us associate healthy looking hair with shiny glossy locks. A good, healthy diet full of vitamins and minerals is essential for the health and condition of your hair. You can fake it with my Phil Smith Be Gorgeous Glam Shine Ultimate Glossing Shampoo and Glam Shine Mirror Shine Spray. Both will add shine for healthy, glossy locks!

Adding texture

Texture can be hard to achieve as you can often use the wrong products or overload with too much product. When the hair is wet add in Phil Smith Be Gorgeous Thickening Volume Cream which creates texture, definition and volume. As it is a light cream it will help protect the style from dropping and you can keep adding to create more texture once the hair is dry - there's no danger of overloading.

Colour care

Caring for your colour is so important in between appointments. It will help to protect the colour, make less work for your colourist at the next appointment and maintain the vibrancy. I recommend replacing your normal shampoo and conditioner and start using a colour protecting shampoo and conditioner with weekly repair treatments 2-3 times a week.

Tumbling curls

For tumbling curls the key is all in the preparation... once washed apply a large amount of mousse Phil Smith Be Gorgeous Big it up! Volume Boosting Mousse - I'd say for long hair the size of two tennis balls. Comb through the lengths for even distribution. Then blast dry. The mousse will act as a setting lotion and help to last all night. Next, choose your curling method - some people find it easier to use a wand and some with ceramic straighteners. Section the hair and apply a light Phil Smith Be Gorgeous Hold Tight Firm Hold Hairspray before curling, pin the curl until you've worked your way around the whole head. Once they are all in pins start removing them gently and run your fingers through the hair to form a shape and style. Don't use a brush just use your fingers. Once you have the desired shape finish with the hairspray - just don't use too much as you will want the hair to still move and look natural.

Red carpet waves

Start by prepping the hair with the Phil Smith Be Gorgeous Big It Up! Shampoo and Conditioner to help give your hair a lift. Next add in the Phil Smith Be Gorgeous Big it up! Volume Boosting Mousse and blast the hair dry creating volume at the roots. Once the hair is dry decide on the size of waves you'd like to achieve - for larger waves make your sections bigger. With a big barrel curling wand begin working your way round the hair and wrap each section around the wand. Hold for a couple of seconds and release, moving on to the next section of hair. When you've finished each of the sections, spray with a light hairspray like Phil Smith Be Gorgeous Hold Tight Firm Hold Hairspray to help set the curls. Let the hair cool and then run your fingers through the hair to soften and break up. Choose to dress up with pins or leave to hang loose. If you want more height around the crown backcomb at the root.
