How best to shampoo coloured hair

Ultimately, when you have coloured hair, the goal is to keep it looking as fresh as possible for as long as possible. The key way to do this is to ensure that you’re using products that work for your hair. But there are other ways to prolong the appearance of healthy looking coloured locks.

Give it a bit of time

When you get home from your appointment, wait for at least 24 hours before washing your hair to give it enough time to absorb into the cuticle.

Leave a day between washes

To try and avoid too much fading, wash your hair at most every other day.

Turn down the temperature

Very hot water is a bad idea for hair colour. If it’s too warm, it opens the hair cuticle which will allow your colour to leak out while you’re washing it.

Choose your products wisely

Make sure your choosing products that enhance your colour. For example, brunettes could choose Phil Smith Be Gorgeous Wow! Brunette which contains Black Tea extract to bring out the rich, dark beauty of the colour

Use a heat protectant spray before using hot tools

Heat will strip away color and hydration and lead to damaged hair so ensure you’re using a protective spray prior to using a hairdryer, straighteners or tongs.
